Throughout the year, the British Royal Family attends a variety of events, and as is to be expected, the brood usually looks respectable and stylish at these gatherings. But one member of the clan in particular stands out for other reasons as well. The 6-year-old son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Louis, has amusingly gained notoriety for pulling faces whenever he is spotted in public. As he and his family celebrated Trooping the Colour this past weekend, the young man once again exhibited a series of amusing facial gestures.

For those who do not know, the yearly Trooping the Colour is a military ceremony held to commemorate the birthday of the British Sovereign. Along with hundreds of military officers and horses, there are musical performances by several performers. It goes without saying that this is a major task. Prince Louis, though, appeared unfazed by this as he and his family observed the celebrations from the Buckingham Palace balcony. The cute child was seen yawning in one photo as the Royal Air Force flew overhead. Look at this:

This next photo may be even funnier than the one with the child alone. There was another instance where the royal’s expression clearly showed confusion. To be honest, it kind of makes me go “WTF.” Examine for yourself:

It’s strange to think that Prince William, Louis’ father, used to call his older son George a rogue. On the other hand, compared to his younger sibling, the ten-year-old prince is quite reserved. But speaking of William, there was also the occasion when, when Trooping the Colour, he tugged Louis’s ear. And that finally caused his toddler to make yet another animated expression:

It would be an understatement to say that Prince Louis was enjoying himself to the fullest during the occasion. Regarding Prince Louis, I believe that this is not the last time he will perform a performance like this during a Trooping the Colour ceremony. Even if you’re not a big royal watcher, you’re probably aware of how much the British royal family in particular enjoys maintaining their public personas. This usually entails acting appropriately and maintaining an air of primness and property while being perfectly content to be anywhere and carry out any task, even if it’s just lounging about in your finest attire. When it comes to following that rule, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids aren’t always so compliant, and Prince Louis has a reputation for pulling funny expressions. It’s encouraging to hear that Middleton isn’t unduly worried about what the royal family does in public, as much has been spoken in recent years regarding the expectations placed on them—as long as they stay within reasonable bounds. After all, how many of us didn’t have to go to some stuffy family gathering as children when we had to sit or stand still and be silent for far too long, only to roll our eyes or yawn occasionally? Right now, the tiny prince is acting like a typical child.

Prince William had already said with pride that his first kid, George, the older brother of Louis, was “a little rascal,” clearly taking after him and Prince Harry when they were younger. George was just a newborn.
