Henry Cavill’s Trending Action Movie Remake on Netflix Makes Me More Disappointed in This Year’s $27M Box Office Bomb
Henry Cavill’s Trending Action Movie Remake on Netflix Makes Me More Disappointed in This Year’s $27M Box Office Bomb
A Henry Cavill action film was just added to Netflix, and while its recent success is encouraging, it makes me regret The Ministry of Ungentlemany Warfare’s poor performance. Actor Henry Cavill has been a notable presence in the action genre ever since he played Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. He now serves as the face of numerous well-known properties, including The Witcher and Superman. However, Henry Cavill’s films aren’t always successful. To be honest, I really like Cavill’s failure flicks the best.
Henry Cavill has had a mixed bag of positive and negative movie experiences, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Cavill’s best rated movie is Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which earned a Certified Fresh score of 97%. Meanwhile, his worst rated movie is 2005’s Hellraiser: Hell world, which garnered a brutal 0% critic’s score. The scores that really stand out to me, though, are those that are simply average. These are movies that were enjoyed by audiences and could have been successful, yet were dragged down by their box office earnings and critical reviews.
Summary
- Henry Cavill’s action movies have had mixed reviews, with his best being Mission: Impossible – Fallout at 97% and the worst being Hellraiser: Hell world at 0%.
- The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is gaining popularity on Netflix, but with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare flopping, a sequel may be unlikely.
- Audience reception for Cavill’s movies differs greatly from critic reviews, showing these films may deserve more respect than they receive.

Henry Cavill’s 2015 Man from U.N.C.L.E. Remake Is Trending on Netflix Shortly After Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’s 2024 Flop
Cavill Is Making a Comeback After His 2024 Disappointment
The fact that Henry Cavill’s 2015 film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is becoming popular on Netflix in the same year that Cavill’s previous Guy Ritchie collaboration failed is an intriguing development. Cavill featured in the film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare in 2024. The ensemble in Guy Ritchie’s action comedy was formidable, with Henry Goulding, Cary Elwes, Alan Ritchson, and Cavill. The plot, which followed an oddball group of outlaws as they battled Hitler and the Nazis, also appeared to have promise. Nevertheless, the film received a pitiful 69% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is loosely based on the real story of Winston Churchill’s Special Forces as explored in the book, Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII by Damien Lewis.
I can’t help but draw parallels between the two Cavill movies. Just like The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. had an optimistic start. The movie garnered a star-studded cast and a strong story. It helped that the film was based on a popular show from the 1960s. Yet, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. faced a similar fate. The Cavill action film premiered to little success. The tables have only started to turn recently, as the spy thriller joined Netflix’s roster and is now a rising favorite on the streaming platform.
Henry Cavill & Guy Ritchie’s Spy Action Movies Are Both Box Office Bombs (Despite Positive Reviews)
The Man From U.N.C.L.E & The Ministry of Ungentlmanly Warfare Are Still Connected
I think The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is still intrinsically tied to The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, even with its unexpected surge in popularity. Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill have the most obvious ties. In addition, the films faced the same challenges at the box office. On a $75 million budget, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. made $110 million on its 2015 debut. This performance was not very good. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare had an even poorer run at the box office. With a $60 million budget, that movie made $27 million.
On Rotten Tomatoes, reviewers gave The Man from U.N.C.L.E. only a 68% rating; however, viewers gave it a much higher rating, 73%.
Considering how highly welcomed these box office disasters were by audiences, their failures are all the more heartbreaking. On Rotten Tomatoes, reviewers gave The Man from U.N.C.L.E. only a 68% rating; however, viewers gave it a much higher rating, 73%. Even more shocking is the discrepancy in reviews for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare between critics and viewers. Audiences rated it 93%, while critics awarded it a 69%. All in all, this only serves to demonstrate that these films weren’t given a fair shot and should be treated with more respect than they presently receive.

What Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’s Box Office Means for Henry Cavill’s Man from U.N.C.L.E. 2
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. 2 Might Not Have Enough Support
Even though The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is making a comeback, a sequel is not in the horizon. I sincerely doubt that there is enough fan support for a sequel, even if I would love to see Henry Cavill as Napoleon Solo again. The performance of the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare does not help either. Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill’s low box office performance suggests that their popularity may be declining. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. 2 would then be dangerous.
I cannot, however, guarantee that a sequel won’t be produced. After a lackluster premiere, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is experiencing a resurgence in popularity almost ten years later. The same could occur for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Hopefully, audiences can finally see what they’re missing when it comes to both of Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie’s movies.

There’s Now a Lot More Pressure on Henry Cavill’s Next Movie After Rotten Tomatoes & Box Office Disaster
There is even more pressure on Henry Cavill’s upcoming espionage comedy, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, to succeed following the critical and commercial disaster of his last spy action comedy, Argylle. Even though Argylle, directed by Matthew Vaughn, failed miserably at the box office for a variety of reasons, Cavill might find great success with another spy action comedy. Argylle laid the stage for many more chapters, even though it falls short of its ambitious goal and underutilizes its talented actors.
Even though the first Argylle movie didn’t go well, Argylle 2 is nonetheless the first of two major espionage films starring Cavill that might set him up for a solo career. There will still be another opportunity to see if there’s interest in Cavill’s deeper foray into the spy genre. Nevertheless, with an abysmal performance at the box office and critics dismissing Argylle as little more than an incoherent and over-long mess, the pressure is on for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare to perform exceptionally well on two fronts.
Summary
- Argylle’s poor performance puts more pressure on Henry Cavill’s upcoming spy comedy to succeed.
- The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare needs to outperform Argylle and avoid its failures in order to improve Cavill’s post-The Witcher legacy.
- Guy Ritchie’s style and the strong supporting cast give hope that The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare can be a success despite Argylle’s shortcomings.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Needs to Beat Argylle’s Rotten Tomatoes Score
Argylle currently holds a 32% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It seems unlikely that the spy action comedy would fare better given its $200 million estimated budget and $35 million opening box office return.
The general view about Argylle is that its uneven tone, needlessly lengthy running length, and lack of appeal to mainstream audiences were only a few of the elements that led to its lackluster reception from critics and audiences alike. Given the spy action-comedy’s $200 million budget and $35 million box office return upon launch, it’s unlikely that things will get much better. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is slated for release in April, still has to steer clear of a lot of Argylle’s mistakes in order to enhance Cavill’s reputation following The Witcher.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is slated for an April 19, 2024 theatrical release.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is in a prime position to outperform Argylle as Ritchie’s body of work has proven that he’s a filmmaker capable of handling historical war dramas with a comedic flourish and action movie fervour that hearkens back to the action vehicles of the 1980s. Still, Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare needs to beat Argylle’s Rotten Tomatoes score as his previous movies, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre underperformed at the box office, which only adds more pressure on his upcoming movie’s box office returns.
