“He Fought for Me and Gambit”: Channing Tatum Addresses Deadpool & Wolverine Role
After his own film was cancelled, one Deadpool & Wolverine star talks about how excited he is to finally play Gambit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. As a member of the Deadpool and Wolverine group, Channing Tatum’s portrayal of Remy LeBeau, a.k.a. Gambit, was one of the most anticipated cameos that eventually came to pass. After Taylor Kitsch’s portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Gambit was portrayed in live action for the second time in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Just one week after the theatrical release of Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum has spoken out about his eagerness to play Gambit in the Phase 5 film. Tatum, who was supposed to headline his own Gambit solo film, shared two pictures of him and Ryan Reynolds at two different San Diego Comic-Cons, and reflected on making his Marvel debut with the following statement:
Tatum joined fellow cast members Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin and director Shawn Levy for a special Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Joining Tatum for the surprise Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine were Chris Evans, Jennifer Garner, and Wesley Snipes, as they reprised their roles of Johnny Storm, Elektra, and Blade.
Summary
- Channing Tatum reflects on finally playing Gambit in the MCU after his solo movie was cancelled.
- Tatum expresses gratitude for Reynolds’ part in getting him the Gambit role in Deadpool & Wolverine, while praising the film as a masterpiece and pure joy.
- After a decade’s wait, Tatum was excited to join Phase 5 of the MCU and considers Deadpool & Wolverine a thrilling experience.
Could Channing Tatum Return as Gambit in Future MCU Movies?
Gambit’s fate is left relatively unclear after Deadpool & Wolverine; however, it is assumed that the TVA was responsible for sending him back to his world. Given that Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit was ultimately accepted and given life in Deadpool & Wolverine, it raises the issue of whether Marvel Studios intends to revisit him in future releases. Marvel Studios has not yet made any official announcements regarding Tatum’s return to the Gambit character in the near future.
As The Multiverse Saga draws to a close, it wouldn’t be remarkable if Tatum returned to play Gambit at least once more. Whether be in a potential Deadpool 4 movie or even in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it may better to do this in Phase 6, as the door will potentially be closed by the time they reach Phase 7. Since Avengers: Secret Wars will reportedly operate as a soft reboot for the MCU, it is very possible that someone else will play Gambit in the franchise after the final Phase 6 installment.
Having Tatum play the Gambit of the Earth-616 universe seems highly unlikely since Marvel Studios is working on their X-Men movie reboot and will likely want a new face to play the beloved mutant. But even if this is the first and only time that the world gets to see Tatum as Gambit, it was incredibly memorable and one of the funnier parts of Deadpool & Wolverine. That said, hopefully Deadpool & Wolverine won’t be the last time Tatum gets to suit up as Gambit.

Deadpool & Wolverine Ending Explained
The conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine is appropriately suspenseful, raising numerous concerns regarding the multiverse’s destiny, the antagonists in the movie, and the MCU’s future. The next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Fox X-Men films is finally here, after years of waiting. As anticipated, the movie merges the two properties, with a cast that includes well-known characters from Marvel’s storied history of motion pictures for Deadpool and Wolverine. The title characters of Deadpool & Wolverine hesitantly get up to foil Cassandra Nova’s evil schemes and save the core of the Marvel multiverse.
This is a story with many turns and turns, of course. The multiversal cameos many expect from a movie of this size are included in full force, with the anticipation of returning heroes driving Deadpool & Wolverine’s box office hopes. That said, the cameos and surprises never overtake the core story at the center of the movie: Deadpool’s desire to save his universe and Wolverine’s need for redemption. By the time of Deadpool & Wolverine’s ending, this story comes to a close in a way that raises several questions for the future of Marvel in film.
How Deadpool and Wolverine Stop Cassandra Nova’s Attempt to Destroy the Multiverse
The objective of Cassandra Nova is becoming evident as Deadpool & Wolverine’s last act unfolds. She intends to utilize the TVA’s Time Ripper device to wipe out every branch of the multiverse, leaving only the Void, which she will govern as her own kingdom. Naturally, Wolverine and Deadpool attempt to stop her. Mr. Paradox, a character from Deadpool and Wolverine, informs the two that the Time Ripper functions by fusing matter and anti-matter, and that the only way to stop the machine is to simultaneously use both types of power and divert them away from it.
Because of their combined strength, Wolverine and Deadpool manage to escape the Time Ripper’s destruction and save the whole multiverse.
After fighting through the Deadpool Corps, Deadpool and Wolverine fight over who is going to sustain the blast of matter and anti-matter, as Mr. Paradox explained it will disintegrate whoever does. Deadpool wins out via deception and begins harnessing the power to stop the Time Ripper and Cassandra. However, he cannot reach both sides of the power source, prompting Wolverine to jump in as both heroes take the blast together. Their combined strength sees Deadpool and Wolverine survive the attempt as the Time Ripper is destroyed, saving the entire multiverse.
Is Cassandra Nova Dead?
One of the main mysteries surrounding the conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine is what happened to Cassandra Nova. Although the movie’s dialogue leaves open-ended questions, it’s safe to assume that Cassandra Nova dies when the Time Ripper is destroyed. Cassandra is seen atomizing when Deadpool and Wolverine destroy the machine, putting an end to her danger to the multiverse. While Cassandra Nova may reappear in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe film, the one that was shown in Deadpool & Wolverine is no longer in existence.
What Happens to Mr. Paradox
Mr. Paradox appears in Deadpool & Wolverine as a supporting antagonist. His goal is to take control of the TVA and transform it back into the crueller, prune-happy organization it was under He Who Remains. He has an uneasy deal with Cassandra Nova that eventually leads to conflict between the two. It is revealed that his group of TVA agents—Hunter B-15 from Loki—is being kept a secret from his superiors. But when the Time Ripper is powered on, B-15 becomes aware of Paradox’s intentions. At the conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine, Paradox is taken into custody by B-15 and his squad is dissolved.
Could Loki Have Stopped the Destruction of The Multiverse?
Even though Hunter B-15 made an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, Loki was left out. The conclusion of Loki season 2 revealed that the multiverse is now shaped like an Yggdrasil tree, with Loki at its core. Since Loki is the one who keeps the multiverse together, it begs the question of whether he could have stepped in to prevent Cassandra from potentially destroying the timelines.
This is unlikely based on what is known about the conclusion of Loki season 2. Rather of defending the multiverse, Loki is only keeping it cohesive. The multiverse ends if he is not present to comprehend the timelines, hence he is unable to depart and make an intervention. Loki’s only option is to observe and have faith that the TVA and other heroes will neutralize intergalactic dangers.
What Happens to Deadpool
As previously mentioned, Deadpool makes it through the Time Ripper’s destruction in the conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine. In the movie’s epilogue, Harry meets characters who provide clues regarding the Multiverse Saga’s future, such as Hunter B-15. Wolverine and Deadpool together acted as the Fox X-Men timeline’s “Anchor Beings.” Anchor Beings are those who, if taken out of their timelines, bring about the end of their universe. Thus, Deadpool went back to Earth-10005 to live in peace.
Do Deadpool and Vanessa Get Back Together?
His bond with Vanessa serves as the main motivator for Deadpool’s adventure in Deadpool & Wolverine. The first two Deadpool movies are comparable to this one, with the third film cantered on Deadpool’s attempt to save Vanessa and his universe. This follows their two previous breakups because Wade lacked self-motivation and desire. Wade informs Vanessa in Deadpool & Wolverine’s epilogue that he still feels something for her, and the two are seen holding hands, suggesting that they will work on a future project together.
