First Part of the Plot

Usagi Tsukino and her companions are still living a calm life as regular high school students in the Azabu-Jūban neighborhood of Minato, Tokyo, months after defeating the Dead Moon Circus. Usagi’s lover Mamoru Chiba intends to study abroad in the US. Mamoru presents Usagi a ring at the airport, but before he can pop the question, the enigmatic Sailor Galaxia kills him, takes his Golden Crystal, and vanishes. Usagi, unable to accept Mamoru’s passing, thinks he got on his jet and took off. Once Usagi bids Chibiusa farewell and heads back to the 30s, she and her pals go to a performance featuring the well-known idol group Three Lights, which consists of Ko Seiya, Ko Taiki, and Ko Yaten. Sailor Iron Mouse, a Sailor Animamate who is part of Shadow Galactica—an empire headed by Sailor Galaxia and committed to plundering Sailor Crystals around the galaxy—attacks during the concert. Three Sailor Guardians from a different solar system, the Sailor Starlights, save the Eternal Sailor Guardians. Although they are aware that the Starlights are the Three Lights, they are still unclear about their intentions. As Chibi-Chibi, an enigmatic youngster, shows up in Usagi’s house, her friends decide to welcome her presence, speculating that she might be related to Chibiusa.

Usagi is shocked when the Three Lights enroll in her high school and is dissatisfied when she does not hear from Mamoru.

Second Part of the Plot

Chibiusa learns from Neo Queen Serenity that the Sailor Guardians have previously been murdered. The Sailor Quartet joins Chibiusa as she transforms to assist Sailor Moon. When Sailor Moon, Kakyuu, the Starlights, and Chibi-Chibi get to the home bases of the Outer Guardians, they discover that they have already been slain. They meet Sailors Lethe and Mnemosyne as they make their way to Galaxia’s base. Lethe destroys the worlds of Luna, Artemis, and Diana, accusing the Silver Moon Crystal of inciting strife as she and Mnemosyne reluctantly entered Galaxia. Sailor Moon begs Lethe to murder her if killing her will bring peace to the galaxy, but Mnemosyne stops Lethe from doing so. Startled by her sincerity, Lethe gives in, but before the Starlights can be killed, Lethe and Mnemosyne are slain by Galaxia’s goons, Sailors Phi, and Chi. Following their successful persuasion of Kakyuu that they can retrieve their Sailor Crystals and therefore bring the Starlights back, they are ambushed by Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon, the final Animamate, but are spared when Sailor Chibi Moon and the Sailor Quartet unexpectedly show up. When Sailor Moon and Chibi Moon reconnect, Chibi Moon believes that Sailor Moon teleported them to her. However, neither Sailor Moon nor Kakyuu deny that it was not them, so they are left to wonder if it was Chibi-Chibi.

Sailor Moon’s Final Battle Begins in ‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos’ Trailer

At last, the wait is over. Netflix unveiled the trailer for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos following its 2023 theatrical debut. There are two parts to this anime feature, and they will both be available for streaming on the same day in August. The “Shadow Galactica” arc, the fifth and last arc of Sailor Moon manga by Naoko Takeuchi, served as the inspiration for Sailor Moon Cosmos.

The logline for Sailor Moon Cosmos, according to the movie’s Netflix page, is “One by one, Sailor Moon’s friends and loved ones are targeted by a formidable new enemy who threatens to destroy everything and rule over the cosmos.” In the teaser, Kotono Mitsuishi’s character Usagi Tsukino, commonly known as Sailor Moon, battles Sailor Galaxia, also referred to as the Warrior of Destruction, played by Megumi Hayashibara. With the aid of her army, the Shadow Galactica, this new enemy intends to take every Sailor Crystal in the galaxy with the goal of changing the course of history. Galaxia threatens to kill Usagi, but with the support of her friends and family, our heroine is determined to defend her galaxy.

Tomoya Takahashi, who helmed the 2010 Iron Man anime, Hunter X Hunter, and Marvel Anime, directed Sailor Moon Cosmos. Toei Animation, the same company that brought us the Sailor Moon anime series and the anime franchises One Piece and Dragon Ball Z, animated the movie. Sailor Moon Cosmos did not place in the top 10 during its first weekend of release and had an average rating of 3.85 out of 5, according to Crunchyroll, which documented the show’s lackluster performance.

The Entire Image

In August, Sailor Moon Cosmos will debut on Netflix, depicting a fight against a powerful new foe who is endangering the universe.

The anime promises enormous action and drama and is inspired on the “Shadow Galactica” arc from Naoko Takeuchi’s manga series.

The Sailor Moon franchise has endured for more than thirty years, despite a lackluster first weekend reaction.

‘Sailor Moon’s Popularity and Longevity

The manga series Sailor Moon was first published in 1991 by Takeuchi, and it ran for a total of eighteen volumes before ending print in 1997. An anime series based on Sailor Moon debuted a year later in 1992. It aired for five seasons, ending in February 1997. Sailor Moon Crystal was a part of the 2014 revival of the program. In a press release, the studio stated that the 2014 series is a re-adaptation of the original manga, not a remake. In addition to the anime, it released a few movies, video games, and musical pieces.

Sailor Moon’s longevity can be attributed to the appeal of the magical girl genre and its relatable and enjoyable narrative. Fans continued to appreciate the series even though it was censored in the United States.

Netflix will release Sailor Moon Cosmos on August 22, 2024.
