And what will the topic be? Here is everything we currently know about Black Doves and what to expect, to answer any questions you may have.

As of November 2023, when I write this, Black Doves has no official release date. Apart from Keira Knightley’s confirmation that she will feature in the series, Variety first reported the programme in early April 2023. Other than that, not much has been known until recently.

Considering that the year is almost over, I doubt it will be on any 2023 TV schedule. Instead, you should watch for the Netflix premiere of this series in late 2024. It could even make it onto our list of the top Netflix series for binge-watching.

Black Doves, as was previously mentioned, will star Keira Knightley. With the premiere of the programme, it was established that Knightley would be the starring actress on the project. Her role is that of Helen Webb. Knightley is well-known for playing a number of important parts in television and motion pictures. Her most well-known role was in the wonderful picture Pride & Prejudice, which is about rivals becoming lovers, although she has been in a number of other movies.

These include her part as Elizabeth Swan in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and other films like Bend It Like Beckham, Love Actually, Anna Karenina, Begin Again, The Duchess, Atonement, Colette, and more, some of which have led to her receiving nominations for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Princess of Thieves, The Treasure Seekers, and other TV movies are among her credits. She also provided Tinker Bell’s voice in the miniseries Neverland. It’s a big deal since Black Doves would be Knightley’s first major part in a TV show that wasn’t a guest star in a TV movie. I’m eager to see what she does with it as well.

It was revealed by Netflix in October 2023 that a number of celebrities, including Keira Knightley, have committed to appear in Black Doves. There are so many people on this cast list who you really should keep an eye out for when this series premieres.

Ben Whishaw is the first person on this list; he will portray Sam Young. Wishaw is well-known for his roles in movies and theatre, including Mary Poppins Returns, The Danish Girl, Hamlet, Skyfall, Spectre, No Time to Die, and The Lobster. In addition, he provided the voice of Paddington Bear in the films Paddington and its sequel. He will return to play the same role in the next Paddington in Peru cast.

Sarah Lancashire, who will portray spymaster Reed, comes next. The actor, who has been in the industry for many years, has been in a number of TV episodes, including Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, and, most recently, the Max original series Julia, which happens to be my personal favourite culinary programme.

Black Doves will also include Andrew Buchan, an actress most recognised for her part in the Amazon series Carnival Row. Renowned actor Andrew Koji, who starred in Warrior, will play Jason in the series. Andor’s Kathryn Hunter will make an appearance. The cast also includes Sam Troughton, who has starred in television programmes including Hex, Robin Hood, Chernobyl, and others.

The cast includes Adam Silver, who will be starring in the upcoming TV series Masters of The Air, and Ella Lily Hyland, who is well-known for her appearances in Fifteen-Love and Silent Roar. Ken Nwosu will be seen in Black Doves and most recently in the TV series The Winter King, which premiered in 2023.

The final two actors that have been confirmed to feature in the series are Omari Douglas and Gabrielle Creevy. A Little Life, Cabaret, Peter Pan, and other theatre plays are just a few of the roles that Douglas has acted in. Creevy is well-known for her work on the BBC television series In My Skin. What a packed cast that is. How come Black Doves couldn’t arrive sooner?

Thanks to Netflix, we do know a little bit about the plot of Black Doves, and it turns out that you could get into the Christmas mood. In Black Doves, Knightley’s character Helen, a ten-year veteran of the spy world, will be followed. But all of a sudden, after her covert lover is slain and her circumstances become precarious, her spymaster summons Sam Young, played by Ben Whishaw, to keep her safe.

The two of them then embark on a quest to discover the reason for her lover’s death and the underlying conspiracy, which has connections to both the London underworld and the government at large. Additionally, it states that the Christmas season will be the setting for this series. I’m still trying to decide if Christmas will be a major plot point in the series or if it will be more of a background event, similar to the “Christmas movie” Die Hard. However, maybe more updates will be coming shortly.

Netflix has also verified that Joe Barton wrote and developed the concept. The author’s two most well-known works are Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project.

However, Deadline claims that he has also contributed to other works, such as The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself and the impending Amadeus series.
