The Deliverance: Lee Daniels Netflix Horror Movie to Release in August 2024

Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, Miss Lawrence & Anthony B. Jenkins headline the new horror.

Filming for Lee Daniels’ eagerly awaited follow-up film, The Deliverance (formerly known as Demon House), on Netflix has long since concluded. The terrifying tale of Latoya Ammons and her family, which made headlines in the US in 2014, is the basis for this feature film. Here is what we currently know about the movie, which will have a theatrical release and an August Netflix debut.

Director Lee Daniels will helm the horror film, having rewritten the script from previous iterations. Empire, Star, Good People, and The United States vs. Billie Holiday are among his credits. The movie is reportedly one of Netflix’s “mid-budget” offerings, for which the streaming service is rumored to have paid a cool $65 million for the rights.

The film was titled Demon House until July 2022. However, it is now known as The Deliverance, probably to prevent confusion with the 2018 film of the same name.

Daniels is producing, along with Todd Crites and Jackson Nguyen of Turn Left Productions; EPs are Greg Renker and Gregoire Gensollen. Alongside Daniels, Elijah Bynum and David Coggeshall are penning the film.

First, the official synopsis provided by Netflix for the upcoming horror film:

“Ebony Jackson, a hard-working single mother battling her own personal struggles, relocates her family to a new house in hopes of starting over. Yet, Ebony quickly finds herself engaged in a struggle for her life and her children’s souls when odd happenings within the house spark the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to destroy the family.

Latoya Ammons and her family, whose life rights made this film possible, are the basis for the thriller. They assert that they have been under demonic possession for more than two years and counting.  Ammons and her family have received international media attention for their accounts, which have been witnessed and documented by the Department of Child Services (DCS), Gary (Indiana) Police Department, and hospital staff. More than two years ago, she started experiencing strange things in her house, such large numbers of flies around her porch in the winter and strange cracking noises coming from her basement. Her middle son was seen by medical personnel gliding backward on the floor, wall, and ceiling, and her oldest daughter inadvertently levitating over her bed were among the many occurrences that ensued.

Relativity claims that the DCS case manager saw her youngest son snarl, his eyes rolling back, his teeth bared, and he locked his hands around his older brother’s throat without remembering anything. The odd happenings were neither explained or resolved by the first psychological evaluations or exorcism attempts.
