Alien Romulus Rating Continues the Franchise’s 45-Year-Old Trend

Alien Romulus Rating Continues the Franchise’s 45-Year-Old Trend

The official age of Alien: Romulus is now 45 years old, following a 45-year pattern in the franchise. The next film in the Alien franchise, directed by Fede Álvarez, follows a young crew on a deserted space station as they battle a dangerous Xenomorph threat, with Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced among them. Alien: Romulus trailers have already hinted at a gory and frightening interpretation of the popular film series, which started in 1979 with Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking debut film.

FilmRatings.com now reports that Alien: Romulus has received a R rating from the MPA due to “bloody violent content and language.” The six preceding films in the franchise, which debuted in 1979, have all likewise received R ratings for comparable reasons, therefore this one follows a trend. See the chart below for the previous Alien movie ratings and the reasoning behind them:

Title         Rating    Reason

Alien (1979)               R       Sci-fi violence/ gore, and language.

Aliens (1986)               R             Monster violence, and for language.

Alien 3 (1992)               R              Monster violence, and for language.

Alien: Resurrection (1997)    R              Strong sci-fi violence and gore, some grotesque images, and for language.

Prometheus (2012)              R              Sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language.

Alien: Covenant (2017)         R              Sci-fi violence, bloody images, language, and some sexuality/nudity.

Alien: Romulus (2024)           R             Bloody violent content and language.

SUMMARY

Romulus is classified R for alienity.
The franchise’s first six entries have all received a R rating due to a mix of profanity and violence.

Fede Álvarez is a fantastic candidate for the upcoming Alien film because his past films fully capitalize on their R rating.

Fede Álvarez Knows How to Take Advantage of An R Rating

Alien: Romulus Will Be Bloody

Álvarez directed two films that demonstrate his comfort level with a R classification before going on an alien series film. The Evil Dead remake from 2013 is the film that really made him famous in Hollywood. In addition to a vicious chainsaw slaughter in the third act, this violent and gory movie also shows blood pouring from the sky.

In 2016, Álvarez also directed Don’t Breathe, which makes the most of its R rating despite not being as graphic as Evil Dead. The movie has unsettling themes and creative moments of true dread. Do not Breathe does not need a lot of blood and gore to seem violent and scary, even though there might not be much of it.

As important as the Xenomorph is to the Alien franchise, the R rating is probably even more significant, so it’s not shocking that Álvarez’s latest picture follows suit. Following the underwhelming reception of Scott’s Alien: Covenant in 2017, Álvarez now has the chance to revitalize the brand and infuse his distinctive ideas into the next picture. There are still a lot of unanswered concerns about how Alien: Romulus will utilize its R rating to its fullest, but it looks like viewers may be in for a rough trip.

The seventh movie in the Alien series is called Alien: Romulus. Fede Álvarez is the director of the film, which centers on a new generation of characters that encounter the terrible Xenomorphs. A stand-alone movie, Alien: Romulus is set in a timeline not yet covered in the Alien series.

Alien: Romulus Rating Confirmed

Alien: Romulus continues a 45-year franchise trend with an R rating.

The much-awaited sequel to the Alien series, Alien: Romulus, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on August 16 and its rating has already been revealed. FilmRatings.com reports that Alien: Romulus has received a R rating from the MPA because to its “bloody violent content and language.” The movie’s R rating maintains the 45-year-old Alien franchise’s trend, as every movie in the series has previously received an R. Most of the movies in the series have received this rating due to a mix of language and violence.

The seventh movie in the Alien series, Alien: Romulus, is set between the events of the previous two movies, Alien, and Aliens.

A Scene from Aliens Inspired the Story for Romulus

A crew of youthful space colonists will encounter the most horrifying living form in the cosmos in Alien: Romulus, which is being marketed more as a spinoff than a straight continuation of the Alien series. Álvarez has previously discussed how the plot of Romulus was influenced by a sequence that was cut out of James Cameron’s Aliens that featured child colonists.

“My first instinct, just to try something different that hasn’t been seen before, was to approach it form the angle of characters who are not professionals or scientists; they’re not even adults,” he stated.

He went on, “It’s likely that when they were young, all of their parents worked on the same ship, which is how they got to know one another. Since they are the only family they have, they have a long history together. Some of them even shared a roof; they behave more like adoptive siblings. The movie’s core themes revolve around the concept of siblinghood and its implications. In fact, that is also tied to the larger Weyland-Yutani scheme and the Romulus of it all.”

Alien: Romulus features Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Aileen Wu, Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), and Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone). A longtime collaborator Rodo Sayagues (Don’t Breathe 2) and Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) penned a script based on characters invented by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Fede Álvarez directs.

August 16 is when Alien: Romulus opens in theaters.

Alien: Romulus Trailer Released by 20th Century Studios

Alien: Romulus hits theaters August 16th.

The trailer for Alien: Romulus, the upcoming film in the Alien franchise, has been released by 20th Century Studios. Fede Álvarez of Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead are the directors of Romulus, which takes place in between the events of the first two movies. Following Ridley Scott’s 2017 film Alien: Covenant, which made over $240 million at the global box office on a ~$97 million budget, is Romulus.

Together with Álvarez, Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead) co-wrote the screenplay, with Scott serving as the film’s producer. As per Álvarez’s statement, he wants to pursue an unconventional approach for the franchise, something that “hasn’t been done before.” The new trailer, which you can watch below, makes this very clear.

What is Alien: Romulus About?

Recently, Álvarez discussed a scenario from the first Alien movie that served as inspiration for the plot of Romulus. The sequence focused on the younger generation of space colonists and how they would behave in the given situation as opposed to experts.

“My first instinct, just to try something different that hasn’t been seen before, was to approach it from the angle of characters who are not professionals or scientists; they’re not even adults,” Martinez told Entertainment Weekly. “I loved the idea of having characters in the lead roles who are more like the audience—not that the audience is youthful, but rather that the public is entirely ignorant of the realities of space. When the characters are professionals, they know more than you do. But when they’re still in their early 20s, they don’t know how to operate the f-cking airlock.”

“It’s likely that when they were young, their parents all worked on the same ship, which is how they got to know each other,” he went on.

“A group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station,” reads the synopsis provided by 20th Century Studios.

Furthermore, Romulus actress Cailee Spaeny revealed to Comic Book that people have varied perspectives on synthetic characters.

Starring in the movie are Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Spike Fearn (After sun), Aileen Wu, and Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla. A longtime collaborator Rodo Sayagues (Don’t Breathe 2) and Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) penned a script based on characters invented by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Fede Álvarez directs.

The movie Alien: Romulus opens in theaters on August 16.

Alien: Romulus – Release Date

The film will debut on Friday, August 16, 2024, in theaters. Its Hulu premiere was originally scheduled, but that was shifted to a theater release.

Alien: Romulus – Plot

The film centers on a group of young people who encounter the universe’s most horrific beast when they travel to a far-off planet.

The director Fede Alvarez reportedly told Total Film earlier that Alien: Romulus was influenced by the legend of Rome’s founders, Romulus, and Remus, according to Radio Times. Romulus killed Remus in the myth.
