Sherlock Holmes 3: Confirmation, & Everything We Know
The adventure of Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law’s Dr. John Watson is continued in Sherlock Holmes 3, the sequel to 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Warner Bros. can profit from the Sherlock Holmes brand, as seen by the $1 billion global box office earnings of the first two Guy Ritchie-directed films in the period mystery thriller trilogy, despite a mere $215 million production budget.
The second Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes film was released more than ten years ago, and although though Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes 3 was announced soon after A Game of Shadows, the release date for the next RDJ and Jude Law adventure is still unknown. For a few years now, the third movie has been stalled in development hell, despite numerous writers purportedly working on the idea. Despite this, updates have been released, and there is a lot to talk about regarding Sherlock Holmes 3.

Sherlock Holmes 3
The third entry in the Sherlock Holmes series, Sherlock Holmes 3, will star Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. as the lead detective and his sidekick Dr. Watson, while the narrative details are unknown. Even though Guy Ritchie directed the previous two movies, Dexter Fletcher will take over as director for the third. As hinted at the conclusion of the previous film, the film might take up where the events of the second one left off, providing a definitive explanation to the issue of how Holmes and Professor Moriarty survived their fall from the Reichenbach Falls.

DIRECTOR: Dexter Fletcher
CAST: Robert Downey Jr. , Jude Law
WRITERS: Chris Brancato
MAIN GENRE: Mystery
OVERVIEW
Plot specifics are yet unclear. Robert Downey Jr. plays renowned detective Sherlock Holmes in this third film in the current Sherlock Holmes film series. Critics gave both movies overwhelmingly good reviews. Since its inception in 2011, the development of Sherlock Holmes 3 has progressed slowly. In 2018, Warner Bros. at last confirmed the movie. The Threequel Is “Still Very Much Alive”
With Guy Ritchie directing the upcoming prequel series Young Sherlock, the focus will once again be on the popular film franchise.
The latest information about the much-awaited threequel is a positive update from Sherlock Holmes 3’s producer, even though news about it has seemingly stopped. Fans can rejoice as Susan Downey, who has been supporting the initiative in recent years, has excellent news to share. Downey said that the project is “still very much alive in our hearts” and emphasized the importance of choosing the appropriate story direction, even though she was unable to provide many specific updates. With Guy Ritchie directing the upcoming prequel series Young Sherlock, the focus will once again be on the popular film franchise.
Below are Downey’s complete remarks:
Look, there is no update other than the fact that it remains very much alive in our hearts. We discuss “What is the best next version of that?” daily. It is magical whenever I see Robert and Jude together, which is something I am lucky enough to see a few times a year. We just hang out and I think to myself, “Can I get these guys back on screen together?” We have some things in the works, but there needs to be a compelling rationale and a fantastic tale.

he initial confirmation of Sherlock Holmes 3 came in 2011, not long after A Game of Shadows came out. However, the production moved extremely slowly until 2018 (according to Collider). The director of Rocketman, Dexter Fletcher, was officially announced as having been brought on board to helm Sherlock Holmes 3, however no further word has been released since July 2019. Ritchie’s replacement had no official explanation provided.
Warner Bros. has selected Chris Brancato, co-creator of Netflix’s Narcos, to write the script for Sherlock Holmes 3. A release window for 2021 was established when filmmaker Dexter Fletcher joined the project. But this never happened, probably because of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, no new release date has been declared, and it is not clear if work on the postponed Sherlock Holmes 3 has resumed.
Sherlock Holmes 3 Cast
Will Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law Return?
Although the cast of Sherlock Holmes 3 has not been formally announced, Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr., the stars of the first two films in the trilogy, are likely to return. In Sherlock Holmes 3, Robert Downey Jr. should reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Law should return as the detective’s sidekick and voice of reason, Dr. John Watson. It’s uncertain who the other cast members are, and it depends depend on the path the story takes. Other cast members might return to their roles, though it is unclear who they would be.
Sherlock Holmes 3 Story
Which Case Will Sherlock Crack Next?
The conclusion of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows undoubtedly set up the plot of Sherlock Holmes 3, whatever that may turn out to be. Holmes appears to have given his life to kill Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris) and save Watson and his new bride, Mary, after successfully thwarting Moriarty’s (Harris) attempts to start a war in Europe. It was then discovered that Holme had indeed survived his fall and was in good condition. This opens the possibility of a third story, which need not necessarily be in the vein of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s publications.
Nothing is known for sure yet, but it is likely that Sherlock Holmes 3 will be a mystery that not only challenges the team’s intelligence but also puts them in grave peril. The most likely solution to revitalize the stale series is a fusion of contemporary Hollywood creativity with the writings of Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sherlock Holmes 3: Everything We Know (So Far) About the Robert Downey, Jr. Threequel
While the loss of Tony Stark devastated fans of the film, it was a game-changer for Robert Downey Jr.’s other properties. Next year, he will launch a Dr. Dolittle remake series, and Warner Bros. has revealed the third installment in his Sherlock Holmes film series.
The threequel has taken a long time to come as Downey’s last film in the iconic Victorian detective character was released prior to the Avengers coming together at the conclusion of MCU Phase 1. Downey found himself quite occupied after that. Sherlock Holmes 3 has a director and a release date determined. Here is all we currently know about the film.
Revision received on May 25, 2020 from Ben Sherlock: Robert Downey, Jr. is free to take on the role of Sherlock Holmes once again now that his duties to Marvel are ended and his recent attempt to revive the Dr. Dolittle franchise ended badly. With Iron Man dead, all of Downey’s eggs are in the Sherlock Holmes basket. On the way to the threequel’s 2021 release date, Warner Bros. has released a few extra details about the movie, so we have updated this list with some new information.
There’s No Trailer
There is not currently a conventional theatrical trailer or a teaser trailer for Sherlock Holmes 3. Warner Bros. is not exactly holding out on us. Since production has not started, there is not any video to use for a trailer. Although the threequel’s marketing is still a few months away, a trailer will be released when it is ready.
t will Be (At Least Partly) Shot in California
The California Film Commission has approved a $20.9 million tax exemption for the filming of Sherlock Holmes 3. This is with an estimated $107.8 million production budget, which is exactly in the sweet spot between the $90 million price tag of the first film and the $125 million price tag of A Game of Shadows.
Thus, at least some of the Sherlock Holmes 3 filming will occur in California, which could validate the allegations that the picture is a western (or, at the very least, that it would incorporate elements of a western).
The Team Is Working from Chris Brancato’s Script
The Sherlock Holmes 3 script has been written by a few different authors. The producers even set up a writers’ room a few years ago, hoping that a group of writers would work together to generate a manuscript they might be satisfied with.
As far as we know, Chris Brancato’s draft is what Warner Bros. and the crew are working from. Because Brancato has experience writing for television shows like the X-Files, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Narcos, he is accustomed to integrating incidents into continuing narratives.
