Inside Out 2’s New Emotions Create a Major Problem for The First Movie
Riley is exposed to new emotions in Inside Out 2, but this poses a significant issue for the first film’s protagonists. Riley’s life is further explored in Pixar’s Inside Out sequel as she approaches adolescence and starts to feel the range of emotions that come with it. Though Anxiety, Ennui, Embarrassment, Envy, and Nostalgia are all confirmed as new emotions for Inside Out 2, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear continue to be major figures in her thoughts. They subsequently start to affect Riley’s behavior, emotions, and ideas, leading to a conflict with the initial feelings.
After Inside Out’s conclusion, it makes sense to introduce a new set of emotions to grow the franchise and delve deeper into the human psyche. After all, human emotions are far from limited to happiness, sorrow, rage, contempt, and fear. The inclusion of five additional emotions in Inside Out 2 enables a more thorough analysis of the human experience, with a particular emphasis on the life of a teenage girl. The plot of the sequel may be more moving because of Riley’s transformation because of anxiety and other emotions, but the arrival of these characters also poses issues.
OVERVIEW
Inside Out 2 explores Riley’s life as she approaches adolescence while introducing new emotions that cause friction with the previous cast of characters.
Although the absence of new sentiments in adulthood raises worries, the sequel increases our understanding of human emotions.
Inside Out 2 offers alternative storylines that could explain missing emotions by suggesting they reside somewhere else or are stored up in adults.

Inside Out 2 (2024)
The 2015 original movie Inside Out, which starred Riley, a young child with an extremely emotional head, has a sequel called Inside Out 2. The ensemble cast, which included Amy Pohler as Joy, Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger, vividly portrayed the range of emotions that teenagers experience as they mature, transform, and adjust to new circumstances. Amy Pohler will reprise her role as Joy in the currently-in-development sequel, alongside Riley, who is now a teenager.
Updates for Inside Out 2 have been coming in since Pixar revealed the film’s release date along with some preliminary cast and story details. The narrative of 2015’s Inside Out is told via the anthropomorphized feelings of Riley, a teenage girl played by Kaitlyn Dias. Although each of her emotions has a distinct personality, they all work together to make Riley a well-rounded child. Riley’s emotional states are personified by Lewis Black as Anger, Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Amy Poehler as Joy, who mentor her as she grows older.
Inside Out defies the standard Pixar model by presenting a movie without a villain. Joy, who is learning that it is dangerous to repress “bad” feelings, is both the protagonist and her own worst enemy. It is a nuanced take on healthy feelings and paints an accurate picture of what maturing can feel like. Inside Out was universally praised with a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it earned a Best Original Screenplay nomination and Best Animated Film win at the 88th Academy Awards. Expectations are high for the sequel and information is still forthcoming but here is what has been revealed so far.

On November 9, 2023, the first teaser trailer for Inside Out 2 was released. Despite being a brief clip, it was surprisingly informative. The preview teased Riley and her typical emotions, bringing back memories of the first film, but then it completely flipped the script by adding even more. In addition, the teaser unveiled Maya Hawke’s character, Anxiety, and featured snippets of speech from the recently recast parts of Disgust and Fear.
Inside Out 2’s full trailer, which debuted in March 2024, revealed many of the new emotions that the teaser had only alluded to. In addition to Anxiety, which was previously presented, Riley’s emotional pantheon also includes Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment, according to the teaser. Furthermore, as Riley’s more chaotic teenage emotions try to take over, Joy and the other members of her original emotional team find themselves repressed and ignored.
Pixar unveiled the final Inside Out 2 trailers, which provides more nuanced teases about the film, ahead of its June 2024 release date. Highlighted by cutting between Riley’s mother and father’s feelings, the teaser also presents Riley with a brand-new feeling: nostalgia. Additionally, it illustrates Riley’s emotional repression technique, which takes the form of numerous of her well-known feelings placed in actual bottles.

All 4 New Emotions in Inside Out 2 Explained
With the release of Inside Out 2, Pixar has hinted at a few new emotions. Riley’s new headgates are revealed in the teaser. As a result, a whole new cast of emotions will have to share headquarters with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear; each of them should bring with it new challenges for the group to overcome. As the first Inside Out movie showed, growing pains are a part of experiencing some emotions, particularly for those that are associated with the big, evil, and terrifying puberty.
OVERVIEW
A new character named Anxiety is introduced in Inside Out 2, representing the difficulties of maturing and embracing the unknown during adolescence.
It has also been reported that Embarrassment, Ennui, and Envy will be joining the cast of Inside Out 2.
According to the Inside Out 2 trailer, Joy and Riley’s previous feelings will be replaced by these new, uncomfortable puberty-related sensations, ushering in yet another wild journey.
The First Inside Out 2 Teaser Trailer Introduced the Anxiety Character
Anxiety is voiced by Maya Hawke
The beginning of puberty is promised by Riley’s new plot in Inside Out 2, and the trailer delivers on this promise. Once the headquarters had been completely dismantled, Anxiety, an orange emotion with wild hair and eyes, presented themselves to the gang. This is an appropriate first new character after puberty since an adolescent’s life is usually filled with uncertainty at this point, and worrying about how things will turn out is a common part of maturing into an adult. Anxiety hinted at the kinds of concerns this new character will introduce to Riley’s story, sharing their desire to make a strong first impression.
Inside Out 2’s extended teaser revealed that Anxiety is a new feeling that leads a sort of rebellion against Joy and the other emotions, taking the character a step further. Seeing that Riley’s future is a concern, Anxiety puts Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust in a jar and labels them as “suppressed emotions.” In the end, this implies that Anxiety will have a somewhat antagonistic role in Inside Out 2, despite their cute and flustered demeanor.
The dreaded “Puberty Alarm” in Riley’s head blew out in the first teaser trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out 2 (2024), bringing in a crew of construction cells to blow up headquarters. A fresh emotion appeared to Joy and the others once everything had settled, and she assured them that more were on the way. These new characters that will oversee Riley’s mind in Inside Out 2 have finally been identified in the official Inside Out 2 trailers.
