Bad Boys 4’s Returning OG Star Gets Enthusiastic Tease After for Life’s Absence

Bad Boys 4’s Returning OG Star Gets Enthusiastic Tease After for Life’s Absence

After their disappearance in Bad Boys for Life, writer Chris Bremner of Bad Boys: Ride or Die teases a returning original star. The fourth installment in the franchise, which is once again directed by Adil & Bilall and features a script co-written by Bremner and Will Beall, centers on detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett who, following the accusations of corruption leveled against their late Captain Howard, become fugitives, and must work outside the law to solve the case. The cast of Bad Boys: Ride or Die is led once again by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, with a mix of new and returning actors playing supporting parts.

In a special interview with Screen Rant, Bremner hinted excitedly at the reunion of an original cast member who did not appear in Bad Boys for Life. The co-writer notes that it made perfect sense to bring back old characters instead of inventing new ones, such as John Salley as Fletcher, because the fourth movie explores an old case involving Captain Howard. See Bremner’s complete remarks below:

Cameos have always been fun for us. “Well, of course, you’re going to go back to all these people, because why not?” was the thought that struck when it was revealed that Captain Howard was assembling evidence from an old case. Why create brand-new characters? There are too many persons for viewers to be interested in. Let us return to the best-selling items. I wish we could have had a couple that we did not get or could not acquire. However, getting John Salley—getting some of these old greats—was incredible.

SUMMARY:

In Bad Boys 4, an original star makes a comeback because of the cases being revisited rather than new characters being introduced to keep the audience interested.
In Bad Boys: Ride or Die, John Salley’s character Fletcher returns from his previous appearance in the series.

Given his NBA experience and his prior role in the L.A.’s Finest spinoff, Salley’s return is noteworthy. He is one of the few original actors who is returning with Smith and Lawrence.

For many years, Bad Boys: Ride or Die news has moved slowly, but now Mike and Marcus’s comeback is getting closer. With Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the lead roles, the first Bad Boys movie was out in 1995. Bad Boys 2 was released in 2003. On January 14, 2020, the third movie in the series, Bad Boys for Life, was released, with the possibility that the plot will be carried out in other movies. Development on Bad Boys: Ride or Die has finally started in earnest after years of little news.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively, in the surprisingly well-reviewed Bad Boys for Life. Mike’s long-lost son Armando Armas (Jacob Scipio), the son of drug kingpin Isabel Aretas (Kate del Castillo), is the opponent they face in the movie. Although Bad Boys: Ride or Die was swiftly confirmed, production did not get underway right away. Thankfully, information about the upcoming Bad Boys film is starting to surface.

Bad Boys 3 Was So Much Better Than Expected: What It Got Right

The legendary police team of Will Smith’s Mike Lowery and Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett was eventually brought back together in Bad Boys for Life, and it was far better than expected—getting a lot of things right in the process. The film took a long time to make, taking place 17 years after Bad Boys II, starring Michael Bay. Even while the first two movies were a ton of fun, they were never revolutionary, and nearly two decades later, it appeared like the franchise had no use for any new content.

The movie that debuted Michael Bay as a feature filmmaker, The Bad Boys, also exposed the world to the legendary friendship between Smith and Lawrence. Bad Boys was a fun reimagining of the buddy-cop genre, and its explosive, testosterone-fueled sequel arrived eight years later. However, part of what makes those first two movies so enticing is that they are classic action movies from the 1990s and early 2000s. They are, in the most wonderful, sentimental sense, products of their era. Even Will Smith be no longer a guaranteed movie office hit until very recently. It always felt like a bad idea to bring the Bad Boys franchise into the present day with a more updated version.
