In its newest crime docuseries, Netflix delves into an odd mystery concerning a covert group known as The Octopus. The Octopus Murders – American Conspiracy has been ordered by the streamer. Zachary Treitz will be directing it. It originates from Duplass Brothers Productions and Stardust Frames, the two businesses that produced Netflix’s popular docuseries Wild Country (Men Go to Battle).

The storey begins with journalist Danny Casolaro’s death, which the police determined to be a suicide when he was discovered dead in a hotel bathtub. However, his relatives and associates think he could have been killed for looking into a plot he dubbed “The Octopus” a covert group linked to government espionage software that was pilfered, a number of unsolved killings, and some of the largest political scandals of the 20th century.

Years thereafter, researcher Christian Hansen is determined to learn the truth about the events leading up to Casolaro’s demise. The goal of the four-part series, which premieres on February 28, is to solve this puzzle. Along with Chapman Way, Maclain Way, Juliana Lembi, Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass, Mel Eslyn, and Christian Hansen, Treitz also serves as an executive producer.

The Octopus Conspiracy: One Woman’s Search for Her Father’s Killer

EARLY on July 1, 1981, three bodies were found in the sand-covered Coachella Valley of California, behind a run-down concrete ranch home on Bob Hope Drive, the major strip. The bodies had been carried into the backyard and were spread out in a semicircle on beds and chairs. Fred Alvarez, the owner of the home, Patricia Castro, his girlfriend, and Ralph Boger, a visitor, were all slain by a single.38-caliber bullet wound to the head. 

Alvarez and his buddies, who didn’t have air conditioning in the house, were reportedly intending to spend the night outside when one or more attackers caught them off guard in the dark. The incident had all the makings of a professional hit as there were few hints and no witnesses left at the site.

At the age of 13, Boger’s daughter Rachel Begley claims to have found out about her father’s passing via a TV news broadcast. Although she occasionally spent days with her dad, riding in the sidecar of his motorbike, her parents had split, and she didn’t know enough about his background to understand what had occurred.

 Eventually, the authorities came to the conclusion that the deaths of Boger and Alvarez were related to dubious activities at the neighbouring Cabazon Indian reserve. However, Begley’s mother kept her away from all the dark aspects of the inquiry. Begley went through a rebellious phase and joined a terrible crowd following the killings. She had dropped out of high school and was pregnant by the time she was fifteen. She finally obtained her GED and relocated to Iowa. She claims that she would frequently inquire with the police about the case because they never seemed to have any updated information. She didn’t have the time or resources to go too far beyond that.

Then, in 2007, she casually entered her father’s name onto Google one evening. Although she didn’t get many hits, she did locate a book called The Octopus: Secret Government and the Death of Danny Casolaro as she scrolled through the ones that did. The book, which was based on the work of a fringe freelance writer, contended that the 1981 triple homicide was part of a vast conspiracy involving private security companies, arms dealers, and the highest levels of the Reagan government. Begley was sceptical at first but became interested. After doing further research, he learned that the murder case had developed a strange life of its own over time, being maintained on unofficial websites and supported by a small group of devoted fans. 

According to these conspiracy theorists, Boger’s murder was carried out by a covert organisation they dubbed the Octopus because of its alleged ability to entwine itself around some of the most influential institutions on the planet. Begley’s straightforward Google search set off a four-year journey, during which she has dedicated herself to finding lost paperwork, communicating with federal inmates, questioning Oliver North, and even going up against the man who may have shot her father. 

She claims that because of her job, she is now a target of the same forces that killed her father and that her life is in danger. She still can’t stop, though. She continues to pursue the conspiracy theories siren call, the same seductive mental route that draws others to Area 51 and the JFK assassination. What started out as a family tragedy has developed into something much more, a complicated mystery whose answer might shed light on her father’s passing as well as the sinister powers responsible for the world’s apparent chaos.
